Girls cricket team
CRICKET …. A GAME FOR ALL?
Why isn’t there a girl’s cricket team?
Cricket is a sport that unites us all. We all love watching the intense Pakistan versus India matches, observing every ball, every run and every sentiment is felt by us all. We take interest in Cricket, but why don’t we play it?
Let’s be honest, the school has tried. Cricket morning practices were initiated yet it sunk into just another ‘idea’. But, why is this?
Personally, I myself am crazy for cricket but there are fears that holds me back like “what if it’s a wide ball?’’ or “what if I’m not good like the boys?’’…‘like the boys’ that phrase is what stops me!
Cricket has always been considered a ‘man’s sport’, but no one took interest in women cricket till the Indian Women Cricket team got into the Women’s World Cup finals.

This needs to stop!
Of course, we can’t control what international teams do, but we can look at our own approach towards the sport. There’s a tiny part of me, longing to play cricket, feel the pressure and just play.
To answer the question of the article, my answer will be:
We need motivation and encouragement. It shouldn’t be that for the cricket teams for the sports day, there should be a minimum of 3 girls. Rather increase the minimum value. The barrier needs to be broken!
I urge all girls who enjoy cricket or who have never tried it to give it an attempt. One games period, give it a try. Get up, wake up, revolutionize the concept that sports are only for men. Your place is not only in the class arranging the shelf or doing the class boards but its also about not tolerating the ordinary. To gather the courage, to call out to what’s not right, gather the nerve to fall, to fail but to develop.

I don’t just want this to be a plain article. Rather, I want this to be a movement. Not only for cricket but women in sports. I will talk to sports captains, vice captains and coordinators, do my best and prove that actions speak louder than words.
Hopefully, my next article will cover a school, student led initiative on a girl’s cricket team. Insha’Allah.
